Oulton Broad National 4th and 5th May 2008 Round 1
Here we are for the first National round of 2008 and the sun was sunshine with little wind, ideal hydroplane weather. The new boat in practice performed quite well and saw us post a time that secured 2nd place on the start grid for heat No.1. Start of heat 1 was good as we were with the Pole man Tony Knights(34) until Mike Pacey(14) hokked his boat on the top turn. In the spray Craig(21) could see nothing and hit Mike's boat head on, fortunately for both know one was injured. Mike's boat had a hole in and could not re-start. The restart saw Craig Speller(21) dropping back lap by lap to finish 5th. It was found in the earlier incident that our gearbox was bent and losing drive as a result. A new gearbox was secured for heat 2, Craig finished in 2nd place after a massive collision with Steven Smith who hooked leaving Craig knowhere to go. Just proving these new NewAce hulls actually do take the punishment. Ready for heat 3 minus Steven Smith who could not get the Banshee Boat built by Brett Duncan repaired! With set-up changes to Craig's boat and getting better and better with every heat Craig managed to take 2nd place again. With the best three heats to count and the worst dropped it meant that the NewAce hull of Craig Speller(21) gained 2nd place overall. Team-21 congratulate Tony Knights(34) Team Tiger for this win. Well done Tony. NOT TOO BAD IN IT'S FIRST COMPETITIVE OUTING. WATCH THIS SPACE.
